Utd 1 Middleborough 0

Manchester United made hard work of dispatching Middlesbrough at Old Trafford but after missing a glut of chances Dimitar Berbatov spared their blushes with the only goal.

The Bulgarian volleyed home from close range in the 69th minute after Michael Carrick's left-wing cross had bounced back off Boro defender David Wheater. Berbatov, who replaced Boxing Day's match-winner at Stoke Carlos Tevez after he returned to Argentina on a ''family issue'', was one of the guilty culprits in the first hour of the match.

But he was not the only one with Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael, Nemanja Vidic and Ji-sung Park all squandering chances against a determined Middlesbrough side.

29 December 2008

Stoke 0 Utd 1

Man United left it late before securing a valuable victory against 10-man Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium. The Club World Cup winners enjoyed longs spells of possession but had to wait until the 83rd minute for the breakthrough when Carlos Tevez found the net from close range. Stoke had defender Andy Wilkinson sent off in the 72nd minute for a second bookable offence and the Reds managed to take advantage.

23 December 2008

Utd won FIFA Club World Cup

Semi Final: United 5 Gamba 3
UNITED strolled to Sunday's FIFA Club World Cup final showdown with Ecuador's Liga de Quito in Japan today - but it took a late goal-crazy finale to really bring this semi-final to life. The European Champions were cruising at 2-0 with 16 minutes to go in Yokohama after Nemanja Vidic and Cristiano Ronaldo had established a comfortable first-half lead. Gamba Osaka hinted at a late recovery with a 74th minute effort from Yamazaki but two goals from Wayne Rooney another from Darren Fletcher and a penalty from Endo and a hit from Hashimoto provided a grandstand finish of six goals worthy of the occasion.

Final: LDU Quito 0 United 1
WAYNE Rooney was a world beater for United in Japan as he hit the winner that saw the Reds become the best club team on the planet. The English Champions, European Champions are now Champions of the World following the victory over South America’s best Liga de Quito from Ecuador.

16 December 2008

Spurs 0 United 0

UNITED had to settle for a goalless draw at White Hart Lane where resurgent Tottenham proved stubborn opposition. Reds goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar had to make saves from David Bentley and Aaron Lennon before the break but after half time Sir Alex Ferguson's men piled on the pressure. However, chances were at a premium and goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was equal to fine efforts from Ji-Sung Park and substitute Ryan Giggs. Dimitar Berbatov will have been particularly disappointed at his failure to make an impact, which just gave the Spurs fans - so used to losing this fixture - more reason to cheer.

United 2 Aalborg 2

A goal and several misses by Tevez & Utd are through as group winner.

09 December 2008

United 1 Sunderland 0

The most unlikely of heroes rescued United from an embarrassing 0-0 draw against 18th-placed Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday evening. Nemanja Vidic scored his eighth United goal, and surely his most important, in the 91st minute to keep United in touch at the top of the table.

The Serbian was first to react after Michael Carrick’s deflected shot hit a post and bounced back across goal, with Black Cats stopper Marton Fulop stranded. Fulop had frustrated the Reds time and again, albeit aided by a Sunderland side so lacking in attacking ambition that their fans cheered a second-half throw-in near United’s corner flag as if their side had gone in front.

United 5 Blackburn 3

A Carlos Tevez quadruple sealed an impressive 5-3 victory over Blackburn Rovers to send the Reds into the last four of the Carling Cup. The Argentine opened the scoring on 36 minutes, before netting a further three times after the break. Nani also got in on the act to ensure United’s place in the semi-finals.

02 December 2008

Ronaldo crowned King of Europe

CRISTIANO Ronaldo was today confirmed as the 2008 European Footballer of the Year, beating competition from Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Liverpool striker Fernando Torres. The prestigious award of the Ballon D'Or to the Manchester United superstar was confirmed early this morning by France Football magazine, who present the trophy based on a poll of 96 top journalists.

City 0 Utd 1

A goal by Rooney depsite referee siding with City.
Ronaldo should not have a first yellow and the 2nd is also debatable since he is not delibrately creating an advantage using his hand.

26 November 2008

Villareal 0 Utd 0

United secured the point they needed to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League in a stalemate against Villarreal. Nobody could muster a goal when the sides met at Old Trafford back in September, and it was the same story in the El Madrigal Stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo came closest to scoring when his effort was tipped onto the crossbar while Villarreal, who also progress, had Joan Capdevila sent off for a challenge on Ronaldo. Ronaldo was at the centre of most of the action for United, and he certainly showed no ill-effects from the ankle problem he suffered at Aston Villa.

For the fourth successive match these teams played out a goalless draw, although United looked the more assured of the two sides.

25 November 2008

Aston Villa 0 Utd 0

United passed up the chance to gain ground on Chelsea and Liverpool after a goalless draw at Aston Villa. Both Chelsea and Liverpool drew earlier on Saturday, to Newcastle and Fulham respectively, but the Reds could not take advantage against a stubborn Aston Villa side.

Chances were few and far between at Villa Park, and Wayne Rooney blasted high and wide from close range when he finally found an opening.

18 November 2008

Utd 5 Stoke 0

United hammered Stoke at Old Trafford with Cristiano Ronaldo (two), Michael Carrick, Dimitar Berbatov and Danny Welbeck on target. Ronaldo scored his 100th United goal and then added another for good measure as the Reds marked Sir Alex Ferguson’s 50 years in style. The Portuguese winger opened United’s account with a trademark free-kick after just three minutes and scored another at the end. In between, Carrick, Berbatov and a stunner from England Under-19 striker Welbeck found the target as well as United recorded their biggest win of the season.

10 November 2008

Arsenal 2 Utd 1

We lost, enough said, cannot afford much hiccups if we want to retain the title. We need to score, not to play like the old Arsenal, creating chances & not finishing them.

06 November 2008

Celtic 1 Utd 1

Giggs scored a second half equaliser to almost sealed entrance to the next stage for Utd.
Playing with Rooney & Berbatov on the bench, Utd did not played wel in the first half. They woke up in the second after intro of Berbatov, Evra & Rooney and could have won from the numerous chances they created late in the game.

03 November 2008

Utd 4 Hull City 3

United looked to be cruising to victory when a Cristiano Ronaldo double and goals from Michael Carrick and Nemanja Vidic put them 4-1 up.

But the Tigers fought back with goals from Bernard Mendy and former Manchester City midfielder Geovanni which saw the Reds holding on for victory.

30 October 2008

Utd 2 West Ham 0

Ronaldo scored a brace against the Hammers.
After turning in United's opener with his left foot from Nani's cross after 13 minutes he screamed with joy to the heavens and then gave a wide grin towards the Reds bench.bThe toothy beaming smile was absent when he slid in to poke his second of the match on the half hour but maybe that was more to do with the fact that it was a routine finish and Dimitar Berbatov deserved to be the focus of attention for his jaw-dropping assist.
It was a sumptuous moment from the Bulgarian as he took the ball to the by-line and completely flummoxed Hammers defender Collins with a turn and flick to leave him rooted to the spot looking at the space where the Reds striker had previously been. bIt was a magical moment that summed up United's swaggering command of this game. One by one all United's wizards had their party trick moments.
If there was any slight downside to this stroll it was the fact that United didn't vastly improve their goal difference figures having opened up West Ham so early and so clinically. It wasn't for want of trying and nobody tried harder than Wayne Rooney when he came on as a sub. He tried a thunderbolt, a delicate chip and a curler to get his name on the scoresheet again in his 21 minutes on the pitch. Ronaldo almost had the final say and should have been celebrating his first hat trick since his treble against Newcastle last January but having been set up by Evra he made it an easy gather for Hammers keeper Robert Green who must have felt like he'd escaped a real thrashing on the night.

28 October 2008

Everton 1 Utd 1

The Toffees held Utd to a draw at Goodison Park this weekend. The Red Devils started well and when they took the lead through Darren Fletcher in the first twenty minutes, Everton may have thought they were in for a good hiding.

However Toffees keeper Tim Howard kept his team in the game in the first half and paid dividends for the home side when Marouane Fellaini headed home after sixty-three minutes. Howard produced an amazing string of saves from Ronaldo, Vidic and a particularly special stop from Giggs.

22 October 2008

Utd 3 Celtics 0

Berbatov scored a brace in Europe.
Nani’s 29th minute corner was eventually nudged goalward by John O’Shea. Berbatov’s finesse as he flicked home was devastating. The Bulgarian mixes panache and predatory skills and the latter was to the fore again as he nicked his second in the 51st minute. Cristiano Ronaldo’s thunderous free kick was too fierce for keeper Boruc to hold and Berbatov beat Wayne Rooney to snaffle the follow up.
The England hitman was again a driving force for the Reds and having been beaten by his strike colleague to the scraps for the second goal, then leathering a shot that was tipped over before having a goal wrongly ruled out for offside, you somehow knew Rooney wouldn’t leave Old Trafford last night without adding to his extraordinary recent run. His figures were increased to nine goals in seven matches for club and country when he drilled home in the 76th minute to finish off a swift United move that began with a Van der Sar quick roll out.

Utd 4 WBA 0

Rooney did it again...

United sunk West Brom with a slick second-half display at Old Trafford. Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Dimitar Berbatov and Nani were all on target to help United into the top four of the Premier League for the first time this season.

07 October 2008

Blackburn 0 United 2

Wes Brown and Wayne Rooney got the goals in front of Fabio Capello as United recorded back-to-back Barclays Premier League victories for the first time this season.

From a corner kick, Rooney curled over a cross to the far post which virtually dropped on Wes Brown's head and bounced in. Blackburn's keeper claimed he was blocked off by Nemanja Vidic as he went to collect the cross but TV replays suggested the contact was accidental. After winning on just one of their last six visits to Blackburn, United were used to struggling at Ewood Park and failed to create many clear cut chances early on. But after breaking the deficit, the result was never in doubt.

United took charge and players were queuing up to get on the end of the overlapping Wes Brown's next cross, which Rooney headed wide, with Cristiano Ronaldo coming close with the final kick of the half after Patrice Evra had crossed.

Berbatov then slipped a pass to Ronaldo that he failed to convert. There was certainly nothing wrong with the surge that took Ronaldo past Martin Olsson after he had collected Wes Brown's short pass by the touchline. And, having charged into open space, Ronaldo was able to take his time and pick out Rooney, who produced an unstoppable first-time finish that flashed into the Blackburn goal.

Carlos Tevez, who many feel is unlucky to be squeezed out of the United side at present, replaced Giggs, then Wes Brown nodded Fletcher's corner over. Rooney chipped over the advancing Jason Brown but also onto the roof of the Blackburn net, then Berbatov could not get around the Rovers goalkeeper after also finding himself racing clear of the home defence. Park Ji-sung replaced Rooney 13 minutes from time, just after Anderson had tested Brown's reflexes with an angled drive. Ronaldo should have done better not long afterwards, then Tevez hit a post after splashing through the puddles four minutes from time to reach the winger's cross.

02 October 2008

Aalborg 0 United 3

It was a comfortable and quality performance by United as they finally got into their stride in the Champions League. One goal from Wayne Rooney and two from Dimitar Berbatov did the damage. The gloss was taken off the victory, though, because of an injury to Paul Scholes (out for 10 weeks!) and a knock to Rooney (doubtful for next game).

After only six minutes Cristiano Ronaldo chased down a pass to keeper Zaza and his hurried clearance spun up off the Reds winger and slowly fell invitingly to Berbatov at close range. But he blew his opportunity as he slammed his effort into the advertising hoardings. Scholes injured his knee in a clumsy tangle with Aalborg captain Augustinussen and was replaced by Ryan Giggs who six minutes after coming on was the brilliant architect of United's opener. He slipped a pass through to Wayne Rooney who confidently stroked home.

Rio Ferdinand was outstanding at the back and his 24th minute stretching block as Bogelund squeezed the trigger saved United in their only serious moment of danger. United were comfortable and nobody was more snug than Rafael. Never mind his European debut, the South American whippet looked like he was as experienced as the United right-backs Wes Brown and Gary Neville, who he is now seriously set to challenge. His penetrating raids down the right were a feature that kept United's nose to the ground.

In the 55th minute Olfers and Augustinussen got themselves into a mess and the latter's woeful effort to clear a ridiculous pass spun towards Berbatov who put accuracy into his hit as he opened his United goal account. He added his second in spectacular style after 79 minutes with a goal of class. Ronaldo put in a cross just a fraction behind the Bulgarian but he shifted his body to volley in again with power and panache.

28 September 2008

United 2 Bolton 0

A controversial Cristiano Ronaldo penalty and fine finish from Wayne Rooney sealed victory for United against Bolton at Old Trafford. Utd dominated the game and pound the Bolton goalmouth, but a combination of good defending, superb goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the scoreline down.
Bolton played hard and made some dangerous tackles. But Utd played one of their best football thus far this season.

United 3 Middlesbrough 1

First goal for Ron this season in his first full match. Giggs and Nani also opended their accounts. With the youngsters playing well, exciting future awaits us. Now only 15 other teams left for the Cup.

24 September 2008

Chelsea 1 Utd 1

A draw is a good result. Though it coould have been a win. It is also good to see Ronaldo back running at defenders.

17 September 2008

Carrick Out for 4-6 weeks

Carrick has been ruled out for four to six weeks after breaking a bone in his foot. Without him in midfield, Utd looked lost. Let's see if Fletcher can come in to contribute. Scholes & Anderson cannot play together.

Liverpool 2 Utd 1

What a shame. Time to change the keeper and tactics. The less said of the match, the better.

04 September 2008

Manucho Gets Work Permit

United have received a work permit for Angola striker Manucho, who signed last December but joined Panathinaikos on loan while he awaited clearance. His availability further increases manager Sir Alex Ferguson's forward options following the signing of Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham. He is injured at the moment, thus unavailable for the next few games.

Phelan Named as New Assistant Manager

United have appointed Mike Phelan as assistant manager, replacing Carlos Queiroz who left in July. Phelan, a former United player, has been working as a first team coach since 2001 when Steve McClaren left for Middlesbrough.

Dutchman Rene Meulensteen has also been promoted from technical skills development officer to take on Phelan's former role. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson welcomed the two new appointments.

02 September 2008

Finally...Berbatov is at Utd

After a long transfer saga, Berbatov finally signed a 4-year deal with Utd for about 30.75 million pounds, with Frazier Campbell going to Spurs on a loan spell (great news, he will gain valuable experience).

The next best news is that City got Robinho instead of Chelsea who is a title rival.

01 September 2008

Utd 1 Zenit 2

Disappointing game, no cohesiveness and sharpness. Was it too early in the season for Utd as compared to Zenit who is now in mid-season? Maybe yes, but they are really missing someone who can score (Ronaldo / Berbatov) and someone who can pass (Carrick)!
And Scholes lost it when he tried a Maradona and was correctly sent off. The team need to buck up fast.

26 August 2008

Portsmouth 0 Utd 1

Fletcher scored again and is now the only and top scorer for Utd!

Injuries had taken many senior players that Anderson needed to be rushed back from Beijing to start this game and the reserve only feature 1 senior player, Gary Neville.

A game away to Pompey is always not easy, and to come back with all 3 points with several frist-team players, including last season's top scorer is satisying enough.

Next will be the SuperCup game against Zenit, may the senior players come back soon.

22 August 2008

No New Striker Yet

Weeks of speculation result in nothing for Utd's transfer. There were players out, but so far no new major signing, except for some young kids.

We are in dire need of a target man and none is in sight, though we have some young strikers in the squad, there seems not ready for the big stage yet. The oldest one, Manchuno, had never played in England and seems to get injured easily recently, though he is a decent striker. Campbell and Welbeck may play some parts, but not in big games. Dong is not even given a squad number.

So we are left with Rooney, Tevez and the injury-prone Saha.

21 August 2008

England 2 Czech Republic 2

Joe Cole snatched a late draw for England in the friendly. But the highlight for Utd's fans is the first goal that Wes Brown socred for England to level the game just beofre half-time.

Silvestre to Arsenal

Silverstre had signed a 2-year contract with Arsenal for 750,000 pounds after 9 years at Utd. He is supposed to add experience and bolster the defence of the Gunners.

18 August 2008

Utd 1 Newcastle 1

Utd were not sharp enough. Playing without Ronaldo and Tevez, Utd only came up with 1 goal despite dominating possession.
Martins scored with a header via a Newcastle corner in the 22 min when the defence went AWOL. Fletcher equalised 2 min later to earn Utd a point.
The game also saw Carrick and Giggs substituted due to injuries and debut of Brazilians, Rodrigo Possebon and Rafael da Silva. Frazier Campbell got to start and played decently well. But Utd need a target man to score more goals.

13 August 2008

Community Shield, United 0 Portsmouth 0 (United win 3-1 on pens)

Utd claimed the Community Shield with a penalty shoot-out win over Portsmouth. There was no drama though as United sauntered through three successful spot-kicks with only Jermain Defoe successful in reply. It represented the first of what could turn out to be seven trophies for the Red Devils this season.

Ronaldo is staying..for now.

Despite Sir Alex Ferguson always insisting he would not be allowed to leave at any price, doubts still remained about Ronaldo’s future. His persistent failure to publically commit himself to Old Trafford, while stating his “dream” was to play in Spain only intensified speculation.

But Ronaldo has finally ended speculation about his future by announcing he will stay at United – for one more season at least after meeting with his manager.

“Therefore, I can confirm that, next season, I will play for Manchester United.” The news is a victory for Fergie who flew out to Portugal for talks with the winger last month. It is also a victory for United against Real, who have so incensed Old Trafford officials with their blatant bid to force a move through the Spanish media.

Dimitar Berbatov is on his way to Utd?

Dimitar Berbatov is apparently on his way. Press reports claim he told Spurs teammates he would join United by the end of the week.
The two clubs are very close to agreeing a fee which would be around 28m pound, much lower than the 38 Million Spurs wanted initially.

30 July 2008

Transfer News / Rumours

Chris Eagles had joined Burnley for slightly more than a million pound in a 3 year deal.
Utd still looking at Berbatov, but chances of him coming is low. The new prospect is Thierry Henry according to rumours.
Sir Alex also insists that Ronaldo will stay at Utd, but for how long, we do not know.

28 July 2008

Utd 2 Portsmouth 1

United’s unbeaten pre-season campaign continue in Nigeria, running out 2-1 winners against Portsmouth. Second-half goals from Chris Eagles and Carlos Tevez gave United a deserved win.

Eagles made amends for missed first-half chances in the 50th min. Pompey failed to clear the ball from a Reds attack and Eagles smashed the loose ball into the top corner from 12 yards. United soon moved 2-0 in front with another emphatic finish. Tevez raced down the right channel and surprised James, who was expecting a shot across goal, with powerful low drive into the near corner. Defoe pulled back a goal for Portsmouth in the last minute of normal time, but United held out to record a third win in four matches in Africa.

Transfer News / Rumours

Tevez is set to sign a permanent for around 33 million pounds.
Utd may not buy Berbatov with Spurs asking for 38 million pounds!
Replacement targets are Santa Cruz, Eto'o, Benzema and the latest, Villa.

Kaizer Chiefs 0 United 4

United went ahead in the 40th minute when Martin's cross from the left found Ryan Giggs, who thrashed a rising half-volley into the top corner. Rooney scored in the 56th minute by bursting clear on to Danny Simpson's pass and scoring with a precision shot. Six minutes later, sub Cleverley guided Rooney's knock-down into the bottom corner, before Campbell completed the rout four minutes from time with a shot across Chiefs keeper Khune Itumeleng.

23 July 2008

Orlando Pirates 0 Utd 1

United managed a 1-0 victory over The Pirates in the second game of the Vodacom Challenge in South Africa. Lee Martin, who has found it difficult to break into the first team squad, gave United the lead in the 23rd minute with an assured finish. Wes Brown knocked the ball forward and it was flicked on by young striker Frazier Campbell, for Martin to latch on to before flicking it into the net with the outside of his right foot.

21 July 2008

Kaizer Chiefs 1 United 1

United were given a good test by the Chiefs with the hosts taking the lead through Jonathan Quartey's penalty in the 37th minute. Chris Eagles marked a rare first team outing grabbed the equaliser in the 59th minute. Eagles powered in a header that took a deflection off Chiefs skipper Jimmy Tau following a cross from Carlos Tevez.

18 July 2008

Utd Bids for Berbatov

United have long been linked with a move for Berbatov, but only over the last week or so have they really stepped up their attempts to sign the Bulgarian hitman.

Ferguson revealed that United have in fact lodged a bid. “We have made Tottenham an offer on Berbatov and we have good expectations that this deal will go through,” the Scot said in The Sun. “Berbatov has been impressive during a long time and would be a great addition to our attack.”

14 July 2008

Friendly: Aberdeen 0 Utd 2

Carrick scored a penalty after Rooney was fell in the box just before half-time and Rooney scored a header from Fletcher's cross in the 69th minute.

These ensure and comfortable win for Utd in their first game since winning the Champions League against Chelsea.

Utd in for Berbatov / Queiroz out

British media reported that Utd had made a 20 mil pound for Berbatov and offered him 80K per week contract. His agent also confirmed Utd's interest.

Queiroz had been officially appointed as Portugal's manager. We shall see what are the effects of him leaving the club and who will take over as Utd's No.2.

09 July 2008

Latest News

Anderson is selected to represent Brazil in the Aug Olympics, which means he will not be avaialble for the start of the season.

Ronaldo had underwent a successful operations which may keep him out for around 6 weeks, thus missing the start as well.

Queiroz to be out of Utd

United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz is Portugal's top target to replace Luiz Felipe Scolari, who left his position after Euro 2008 to take charge of Chelsea. Reports have claimed that Queiroz has already agreed to succeed Scolari, as talks continue between the Portuguese Football Federation and United.
The 55-year-old spoke to journalists and says he is waiting for the Premier League champions and the federation to come to a decision.

02 July 2008

Transfer Rumours - Only 1 Striker?

Alex Ferguson had hinted that Utd will probably buy only 1 player this summer (apart from youngsters of course). Is he playing mind games with agents to ensure transfer fees are not inflated?

Berbatov has re-emerged as the number one target as Benzema is priced out. Pavlyuchenko and Huntelaar, whose contract negotiation with Ajax had broken down, are also being considered if Spurs is unwilling to deal.

16 June 2008

Davide Petrucci Joins Utd

Highly rated teenager, 16 years old, Davide Petrucci will moved from Roma to Utd next season for only 200,000 pounds. He will be placed in the Academy.

13 June 2008

Evra sign new 4-year contract

Great piece of news! Patrice Evra has signed a new four-year deal at Manchester United. The defender is a key part in the club's success in the past 2 seasons. He is now rated as one of the best left-back in the world, though his international coach did not think so and did not field him in the game against Romania.

04 June 2008

Utd in for Aaron Ramsey

Updated on 10 Jun: AR decided to join Arsenal, feeling that he may play for Arsenal next season, rather than signing for Utd and loan back to Cardiff.

Aaron Ramsey, the 17-year-old Wales international, will now discuss personal terms and undergo a medical with United, after United have agreed a fee with Cardiff for the transfer.

In this season, Ramsey, a midfielder, played 20 games for Cardiff and scored 2 goals. Weighing 76kg and is 1.78m tall, he is suitable for the physical battle in the Premiere League.

03 June 2008

Robinho for Ronaldo?

REAL Madrid winger Robinho claims he could be used as a makeweight in a deal to take United winger Cristiano Ronaldo to Spain. But both Utd and Real declined comments.

I will rather they include Sneijder as well, if Ron really wants to leave.

Robinho, 24 years old, played 32 games and scored 11 goals for Real Madrid in Spanish League this season. He played 6 games and scored 4 goals in the Champions League.

Sneijder, aged 23, played 30 games and scored 9 goals for Real Madrid in Spanish League this season. The midfielder also played 5 games in the Champions League.

Benzema for Utd??

UNITED are reportedly ready to make 30 million pound bid for 20 years old French international forward Karim Benzema. United hoped to tie up a deal within the next seven days if possible as his value may increase after Euro 2008.

Benzema is not the only striker in sight with Sevilla forward Fabiano, Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov and West Ham's England striker Dean Ashton also under consideration.

Benzema played 37 games for Lyons in the French League this season and scored 21 goals. He has 7 games and 4 goals to his name for the Champions League. At 1.83m tall and 73 kg with good speed, he is an ideal target man.

Match Review (Man U vs West Ham)

Good performance and a rash moment from one of the youngster. 4-1 is a good result, putting pressure on Chelsea. But Nani's red card for a moment of folly will mean that Utd will miss one of its key reserve for the last league game and few more next season. Hope he learnt his lesson, but why Neill's 2-handed slap (albeit a soft one) on Nani's face was missed by the assistant remains a mystery. That was violent conduct as well according to the rule book.

Van der Sar (6.5): Not much to deal with.
Hargreaves (7): Rarely troubled, make some good crosses during the overlapping runs.
Ferdinand (7): Only fault was to let Ashton muscled him out for the goal.
Brown (7): Did decently well. West Ham's poor performance helped.
Evra (7.5): Lots of energy and not troubled defensively.
Nani (4.5): Provoked, but should not have reacted, need to learn and improve.
Carrick (7.5): Another good display and a lucky goal.
Scholes (7): Controlled the midfield with Carrick.
Park (7): Showed great stamina again.
Ronaldo (8): Good runs and a couple of goals. Still looked fresh at end of season.
Tevez (8): Great goal and lots of running.

Giggs (7) (sub Park 61): Played well.
Fletcher (6) (sub Ronaldo 64): Decent game.

Match Preview (Man U vs West Ham)

Prediction: Utd 3 West Ham 0

VDS will start in goal.
Hargreaves, Brown, Ferdinand and Evra should start, no need to rest players any more.
In midfield, will be Carrick, Fletcher, Ronaldo, Anderson and Scholes.
Tevez will start upfront as it seems that Rooney will probably not be fit.

Out: Saha
Major doubt: Rooney, Vidic

Match Review (Man U vs Barcelona)

No Rooney, No Vidic, never mind. Ronaldo booked for a foul committed against him, 50-50 decisions went the way of Barcelona. Never mind. What we need is a strike by the 'too old, too slow' Scholes. Barcelona looked good, but is never, they passed the ball around and did nothing much with it.
A good win and one more in Moscow against Chelsea and the referee, as usual, and the Cup will be at Utd for a year.

Van der Sar (6): He never did well wearing green, his kicks and passes were poor. At least, he made some decent saves/stops.
Hargreaves (6.5): Good display since he is played out of position. Tend to hold the ball too long.
Brown (8.5): Was he Vidic in disguise? A performance that showed how good he is.
Ferdinand (8.5): Marvelous game, solid in defence.
Evra (7): Exposed at times defensively, but his attacking runs is a threat to opponent.
Park (8): Hard work, was almost everywhere and made good passes.
Carrick (7.5): Not his best game, but anchored the midfield well and made some good passes upfront.
Scholes (7): Magnificent goal, but was just above average throughout the game.
Nani (6.5): Should improve on his decision-makings. Take good corners.
Tevez (8): Park's twin brother, ran and harass the defenders.
Ronaldo (7.5): Good game, ran at defenders and open up space for team-mates.

Giggs (6) (Nani 77): Nothing much to show for.
Fletcher (6) (Scholes 77): Can in to close up the game.
Silvestre (5.5) (Evra 90): no time to perform.

Out: Saha
Probable: Vidic, Rooney

Match Review (Chelsea vs Man U)

Did the better team won? No! Chelsea was better in the first half, while Utd was better in the 2nd. Bad decisions by the referee and the assistant referee! Kick in the face was a foul and at least a yellow card, whether delibrate or not. Holding a player in the box preventing him from attacking the ball is a penalty (it was given to Gerrard when the ball was not even played in). Several fouls against Utd players were not penalised. The penalty? It was more of 20-80 & Chelsea got the 20 (worse handball was not given for Uts during the Blackburn game). The referee had gone from bad to worse and include those from Europe games as well.

Van der Sar (6.5): Did well, but distribution of ball was poor.

Brown (5.5): Could not match Drogba's strength.

Ferdinand (7): Held defence well on most occasions.

Vidic (5.5): Went to hospital again, missed dearly in the game.

Silvestre (7): Best performace by him since several years ago.

Nani (5): No threat, decision-makings were generally poor.

Fletcher (6.5): Industrous and good efforts.

Carrick (6): Defended well, but there was no one for him to pass forward!

Anderson (5): Over-hyped after his first few impressive games for Utd. Had been not playing well since.

Giggs (5.5): Average game, time to retire soon.

Rooney (6): Scored well on a lucky break. Looks unfir throughout the game.

Hargreaves (6) (sub Vidic 14) Good cover at right back.

Ronaldo (6) (sub Rooney 63) Good shot cleared off line. Held back by Ballack in the penalty box, but referee was blinded.

O'Shea (sub Anderson 65) Disciplined role 5

Probable: Vidic (stomach virus)

Match Review (Barcelona vs Man U)

A good result, but boring game. Miss penalty by Ronaldo and many poor decisions by the referee who looked overwhelmed by Camp Nou.

VAN DER SAR (7.5): Experience showed and he did well to keep clean sheet.
HARGREAVES (6.5): Defended well, but did not attack much.
FERDINAND (7): A good display again.
BROWN (6.5): Not as good a Vidic, but decent cover.
EVRA (7.5): One of his better defensive display, not his usual attacking play.
PARK (5.5): Ran and ran, but could not do much.
CARRICK (5.5): One of his off-nights.
SCHOLES (7): Did well to justify his selection.
RONALDO (7): Make good runs and had a few penalty shouts. Consistently fouled blantantly, but referee was too lenient.
ROONEY (5): Out of position, out of idea.
TEVEZ (5.5): Usual effort, but nothing to show for.

NANI (5.5): (for Rooney 75 mins) Did not make much impact.
GIGGS (5): (for Tevez 85 mins) Did he touch the ball?

Out: Saha (hamstring)

Match Review (Blackburn vs Man U)

A sub-par performance from the 2 veterans, and a superb performance by Friedel cost Utd 2 points. A good goal by Tevez cancelled out Santa Cruz's lucky goal. Also a definite Utd penalty not spotted by the referee.

Kuszczak (6): Good block with his leg for the 'penalty' claim, did ok.
Brown (5): Could not stopped Pederson on his own.
Ferdinand (6): At fault for the goal, average display overall.
Vidic (6): A bit rusty after some weeks out.
Evra (6.5): Usual hard work, not much to show for.
Ronaldo (6.5): Not at his best, but still hit the post and forced a good save out of Friedel.
Carrick (7): Many good passes, but were not converted into goals.
Scholes (4.5): Bad display in the 1st half, slightly better in the 2nd.
Giggs (4): A forgetable day, Utd played with 9 men in the 1st half, with Scholes and Giggs missing.
Tevez (6): Played with energy, but no purpose until the goal.
Rooney(5.5): Got frustrated and affected his play.

Subs Nani (5.5) (sub Giggs 45) Average game, better balls in than Giggs.
O'Shea (6) (sub Brown 81) Nothing much to show for, except for a good chance which was saved by Friedel's leg.

Match Review (Man U vs Arsenal)

It shows that cheats don't win. Handball goal by Adebayor was cancelled out by handball of Gallas resultant penalty which was slotted in cooly by Ronaldo. A superb free ick by Hargreaves then won the match.

Van der Sar (8): Except for a little out of postion for the handball goal, he did well and made smart saves.
Brown (5.5): Had difficulty dealing with Van Persie, got better when Van Persie was subbed.
Ferdinand (8): Was in commanding form, except for the almost 'own goal'.
Pique (6.5): Did ok, good on the ball, but could be beaten by pace.

Match Review (Man U vs Roma)

No Ronaldo, no Rooney, no Vidic, no Evra, no nani, no Scholes...and Utd still won. A missed penalty by Roma, which should not have been given and a goal by Tevez. Lots of misses by Utd & Roma as well.

Match Review (Boro vs Man U)

The defence is a worry now for Utd. But at least, we got a point and has a 3-pt plus huge goal difference lead. Utd di not play too well, with the referee helping Boro with his leniency. If Rooney got book for his 'foul' on the keeper. Boro shld have a few players sent off for flying in with tackles.

Brown (5): Did not play well, slightly better as centre-back.
Ferdinand (6.5): Played reasonably well till hampered by injury.
O'Shea (5): Not good enough to cover for Vidic.

Match Review (Man U vs Liverpool)

What a match, what a mess casued by Mascherano. He had been one fo the dirtiest players in Liverpool and with constant fouling and arguing with the referee, he deserved to be sent off. Utd's finishing is missing, but still they got 3 goals!

Still 3 points, but disappointing in front of goal. Luckily we have Foster and Ronaldo. Anderson and Scholes cannot play together and Anderson had not been as good in recent matches, so is Rooney. Without Rio, the defence, in fact the team, lacked leadership.

Transfer Rumours

Rumours had been flying on transfer targets for the Red Devils, with strikers & full backs mentioned mostly. Since Ole retired, Saha usually unfit & the youngsters still cannot make it, another striker is needed quite urgently. 3 names that appeared are: Berbatov, Benzema & Huntelaar.

Berbatov, the Bulgarian (50 caps, 31 goals), will be 27 in 2 weeks time. He played in the German league (scoring a goal every slightly more than 2 games) before going to Spurs (36 goals in 69 starts & 9 substitute appearances). He is skilful and reasonably fast cos of his long legs. He also possesses great passing abilities and positional awareness, but is a bit too sulky if he did not get to start games. He is at peak age and is able to come in and perform immediately, but his price tag is way too high considered his age.

Benzema, the French (8 caps, 3 goals), is only 20yrs 1 mth old. He played for Lyon in the French league (41 starts, 28 subs, 25 goals) and had been scoring at will this season. He is one for the future as he will probably take some time to settle to the fast-paced English game. He also needs to pump some iron to handle the big defenders.

Huntelaar, the Dutch (9 caps, 3 goals), is 24 yrs 5 mths old. He played for various clubs in Holland, latest being Ajax. His goal ratio is close to 1 per game in the past 3 seasons (19 goals in 22 games this season), but he is still not proven at the top levels. Dutch league players tend to score loads of goals (another remember Kezman?). He is at the age whereby if he is good enough, he will be out of Dutch league by end of this season. We shall see whether he is RvN or Kurt.

Richest Club

The Red Devils reported a stunning profits of £59.6million for the 12 months to June 2007 (93% rise on the previous year). Turnover was £210million (£245million with sales from Nike merchandise and MUTV added). Higher profits is expected for the next reporting year.
